NI VR5 Certified for SES AMERICOM REDiSat
Network Innovations’ VR5 Auto-Pointing VSAT System Certified by SES AMERICOM for REDiSat Enables Mobile, Quick Deployment, Emergency Communications
Calgary, AB, November 12, 2007 – Network Innovations and SES AMERICOM have completed the certification process of Network Innovations’ VR5 Auto-Pointing VSAT system for mobile deployments of SES AMERICOM’s REDiSat™ service. The integration of the VR5 into the REDiSat technical package provides organizations with an ideal solution for temporary, mobile emergency high speed communications. Users of the REDiSat service pay a minimal monthly fee for standby VSAT communications services. Augmented with the VR5 system from Network Innovations, REDiSat offers first responders, public safety organizations, disaster relief agencies, and corporate enterprises a robust mobile solution for business continuity or emergency communications when and where needed across the continental United States.
The REDiSat system is a dedicated two-way communications network that is activated on an as-needed basis to respond to disaster and other emergency situations. The system is built on TDM/TDMA architecture, enabling multiple users to share a pool of dedicated and occasional satellite bandwidth administered from SES AMERICOM’s Woodbine, Maryland teleport. Users can download at 1 Mbit per second and upload at up to 256 Kbits per second. REDiSat provides high-speed connectivity for critical applications such as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), file sharing and Internet access within minutes, when other forms of terrestrial communications may be disrupted or unavailable. A per megabyte data transfer rate applies only when the REDiSat terminal is activated and in use. “The REDiSat service can be used at a fixed site, and now, with our certification of Network Innovations’ VR5 antenna, our customers have a great option for a mobile, transportable solution for emergency communications,” said Julian Gonzalez, Product Manager for REDiSat at SES AMERICOM. “When working with Network Innovations’ REDiSat offering, companies and organizations can be prepared to reinstitute high-speed communications from buildings as well from mobile units such as trucks, ambulances, and trailers within moments after a terrestrial telecom interruption.” The Network Innovations’ VR5 is a rugged mobile satellite antenna designed for quick and easy deployment and minimal field maintenance. The VR5 is an extremely reliable auto-mount antenna system that can be easily deployed from a stowed position to fully locked operation in less than five minutes. With its ease-of-use and multiple configuration capabilities, the VR5 provides instant communications access to the REDiSat network, where and when required. The VR5 is driven by a solid state controller which performs automatic satellite signal acquisition to ensure successful deployments, fast acquisition and excellent SNR (Signal to noise ratio) values. The controller is completely standalone and does not require a connection to a PC to deploy the VR5 antenna. The controller can also be provided in a rackmount enclosure which can also house the REDiSat iDirect satellite modem and VOIP equipment. The VR5 features multiple mounting options to enable truck-mount, roof-mount, trailer-mount, non-penetrating roof-mount or portable fly-away cases.
“The certification of the VR5 for REDiSat deployments is great news for our public safety customers who need mobile options for high speed communications,” said Heike Wierenga, Engineering Manager for Network Innovations. “The thoroughness of the certification process means that customers can have high confidence in this solution for emergency communications.” The REDiSat service with the VR5 is available now for the continental United States.
