In 2010, Network Innovations provided satellite communications for Jordan’s conquest of Mount Everest, allowing for unprecedented communication and tracking right up to the 29,035′/8848m summit. For the Mount Vinson expedition, Jordan’s team will be equipped with an Iridium 9555 and 9575 Extreme satellite telephones for voice and data communications. Tracking will be done through the 9575’s in-built tracking capabilities leveraging the GeoPro tracking service.
The 9575 supports periodic location tracking through the use of Short Burst Data, or SMS. Location updates are sent at specific intervals that can be set by the user through the phones menus. Additionally, a manual location report, or “Quick GPS” can be sent by the user at any time.
Antarctica is possibly the best proving grounds for the ruggedized Extreme 9575. The sat-phone will be enduring some of the harshest conditions this planet has to offer, while tracking Jordan and his team to the peak of Mt Vinson. At the time of this writing, the current temperature at Mt. Vinson is a chilling -37C with a 15 km/h wind.

I DID IT. May 22, 2010 I stepped onto the summit of Mt. Everest. My team was amazing, and all my hard work paid off.
Now… to finish my quest to climb the ‘Seven Summits of the World’, I will move my sights to Antarctica, the coldest place on earth. Near the south pole, is Mt. Vinson Massif. Me and the team will have to make an amazing effort just to get there.
We are ready to stand at the base of the mountain – mind, body and soul taking in the sight, feeling the wind in our faces and breathing in the experience.
We’ve trained our minds for the difficulties and emotions that the mountain will give to us. We’ve trained our bodies for the physical challenges that the mountain will share. We’ve opened our souls to the mountain, the history, the culture and the rituals that surround the climb. We are a team and together we will find our synergy and step together toward the summit.
